New Patients

We normally have a limited number of new private patient places with the practice, however due to the Coronavirus Pandemic we have temporarily suspended registration of new private patients, until things return to normal. Please contact our reception team on 0131 663 9271 with your details during practice hours, or email the practice: practice@macneil-dental.co.uk if you wish to be added to our waiting list.

We are currently not accepting any new NHS patients except children of existing registered practice patients.

Initial New Patient Examination: £63.00

Please arrive ten minutes early for your first visit as we will require you to complete a few forms ahead of your appointment with your new dentist, Helen MacNeil.

Helen will discuss with you any issues regarding your forms and dental history and your expectations of dental treatment before carrying out an extended initial dental examination. This first visit costs £60.00 and and the appointment usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes and may include any necessary x-rays.

This visit will include:

  • Assessment of your head and neck area including jaw joint
  • Mouth cancer screening and assessment of the lining of your mouth, tongue, hard and soft palate, lips and cheeks
  • Full charting of your teeth and any previous dental treatment
  • Assessment of teeth
  • Assessment of existing fillings and other dental work
  • Assessment of gum health
  • Assessment of caries rate
  • Assessment of any tooth surface loss
  • Any required x-ray films which check the not visible areas: in between teeth, under exiting fillings and supporting bone level.

Helen then will discuss with you her findings and advise you on your oral health status. You will then be given any recommendations and will be provided  with a written estimate if any dental treatment is indicated. Helen will discuss which private dental plan would suit you best.

Details of our practice dental plans are available.

Forms to set up the plans are available at reception where one of our staff would be delighted to help you.  Please note that if you wish to join the Regular Care Plan and take advantage of the 20% discount off treatment fees, we will have to wait for the plan to be active before making your appointments.
